PSA Slovakia is Halting Production in August

PSA Peugeot Citroën is halting production in Slovakia in August, mainly due to planned maintenance and also swings in market demand, the Slovak unit said on Friday.
The company's assembly plant in the western Slovak town of Trnava stopped production on August 1st and will resume operations on August 30th.

"The primary reason for the production halt is planned maintenance, the second one is preparation for a new model and the third factor is the situation in the market and slight swings in demand," Peter Svec, spokesman for PSA Peugeot Citroën Slovakia said.

PSA made 186,150 cars in Slovakia last year, down from 205,000 in 2009. It plans to invest €130 million at its Trnava site to add a new model, due next year, a move which promises to create around 900 new jobs. The factory currently makes the Peugeot 207 and the Citroen C3 Picasso.

The Trnava plant will resume full operations on Tuesday, August 30th
