According to Iranian media reports, the Lada brand is set to return to Iran. A new company, called Rahbar (leading on the road) is now advertising Kalina and Granta models. The cars have been priced to be competitive with locally assembled Chinese cars. The company also plans to launch assembly of the Kalina next year. According to Izvestiya, OAO AvtoVAZ shipped a trial batch of 10 cars to Iran this year. Lada models were sold in Iran before the 1979 Revolution. Another Russian vehicle maker, Gruppa GAZ inked a deal with Iran’s vehicle manufacturer Iran Khodro in 2006 for the local assembly of the Gazel van, but only a few units were assembled.
