PSA May Launch Second Vehicle Assembly Operation in Russia

This was announced by Didier Alton, the general director of PSMA Rus (PSA Peugeot Citroën and Mitsubishi's joint venture in Kaluga) at the forum organized by the Russian business daily Vedomosti on Wednesday, reports Interfax.

"We are seeking possible options to cooperate with any company, which manufactures cars in Russia, including local producers," Alton said, adding that the PSA is not involved in negotiations with the GAZ Group.

PSMA Rus produced 34.488 Peugeot, Citroën and Mitsubishi cars between January and October 2011. The Kaluga plant is capable to produce 45 thousand vehicles per year. Its annual capacity is planned to increase to 125,000 units in 2012, when the facility will move to full-cycle production, while its output is scheduled to increase to 300,000 units in the longer term.

French carmaker PSA Peugeot Citroën is reportedly considering setting up an additional car production facility in Russia, which would be the company’s second plant in the country
