Opel Offers Hungary Closer Cooperation

German car maker Opel has offered Hungary cooperation in manufacturing electric cars during Prime Minister Viktor Orban's visit to its largest factory in Germany in the town of Rüsselsheim near Frankfurt on Tuesday, MTI reported, citing the company's deputy president Volker Hoff.

The European subsidiary of General Motors seeks to develop closer partnership with Hungary even in this field, Hoff said after talks between Orban and senior Opel managers.

Orban said that Hungary wanted to extend its cooperation with Opel from manufacturing to training, as well, adding that Hungary's new nation strategy provided room for stable, long-term planning.

Orban was invited to visit the plant by Opel's European director when the company laid the cornerstone of a €500 million engine plant at its base in Szentgotthárd in western Hungary in April.

Hoff said that the new facility would become the world's highest-tech engine factory, manufacturing three families of petrol and diesel engines.
