Škoda is increasing the productivity of the assembly of axles in its automobile production. Last week, the manufacturer commissioned a new assembly line for the front axle of the models Superb, Yeti, and Octavia at its plant in Mladá Boleslav. Thanks to new screwing stations, the production cycle time on the new line has been halved from one minute to 30 seconds. In the second half of the year, a new assembly line for the rear axle of the three models will begin serial operation as well.
“For our growth strategy it is essential to continue to increase the productivity in all manufacturing areas,” emphasizes Michael Oeljeklaus, the Škoda board member for production and logistics. “The significant improvements for the assembly of axles provide an important contribution toward that end and are an important prerequisite for the successive increase of production in the coming years. Until 2018, we want to sell about 1.5 million vehicles per year. That is what we are preparing the entire production for.”
With a length of 66 meters, the new assembly line is the longest facility of its kind used at Škoda. Besides the new line for the rear axle of the Superb, Yeti, and Octavia, the assembly line for the axle of the Roomster is expanded as well. In the future, axles for two other Škoda models will also be built on it.
