Best May Ever at Škoda

Škoda continues to grow at a high rate and in the month of May 2011 has again made significant gains compared to the previous year. With 78,100 deliveries to customers, worldwide sales rose 19.5% compared to the same month of last year (May 2010: 65,300 vehicles). With that development, the Czech automobile manufacturer has achieved the best May sales result in its history. Moreover, new monthly sales records were reached in Russia und in Switzerland. On a cumulative basis, Škoda sold 373,400 vehicles in the first five months of the year (January - May 2010: 307,400 units), a plus of 21.5%.

Within a declining Czech market, Škoda sold 4,800 vehicles in May. By far the highest demand in its home market was recorded for the Škoda models Octavia and Fabia.

The brand achieved high growth rates in the other markets of Central and Eastern Europe in May. Sales in Poland rose 16.4%, in the Ukraine 60.7%.

In Western Europe, Škoda grew 18% in May. Once again, the brand was able to gain market shares here. Compared to the previous year, sales rose to 34,400 units. In Switzerland, the brand scored a new monthly sales record with 1,600 units – a plus of 37.3%. Škoda also recorded high two-digit growth rates in other Western European countries. Among them are Sweden (+32.7%), Belgium (+56.6%), and the Netherlands (+72.9%).

Regarding the growth markets of Russia, India, and China, Škoda’s dynamic development continues unabated. In Russia, the brand achieved the best May sales result ever with a plus of 39.4% and 6,100 sold vehicles and the third record sales month in a row. In China, too, Škoda once more enjoyed significant growth in May: deliveries rose 31.3% to 18,600 units (May 2010: 14,162 vehicles). In India, the manufacturer reached a plus of 23.6% in May compared to the previous year, selling 1,900 units. The small car Fabia is particularly well received by customers on the subcontinent.

But other individual, non-European markets showed a positive development in May as well: Particularly noteworthy among them are Australia (+43.7%), Turkey (+20.1%), and Israel (+23.6%).

Octavia (32,600 vehicles/+21%), Fabia (23,400 vehicles/+24.6%), Superb (10,900 vehicles/+18.5%), Yeti (6,600 vehicles/+55.8%), Roomster (3,300 vehicles/+19.9%).
