WARSAW, Poland - Russian-British company Intrall (International Truck Alliance) is considering setting up a vehicle assembly plant at the site of the former Szczecin shipyard in northwest Poland by the end of 2011, with a view to manufacture vans and trucks, Polish daily Gazeta Wyborcza has reported. The Russian company says it wants to employ up to 1,000 workers at the plant.
"Talks about the Russian investment at the Szczecin shipyard are underway" - confirmed deputy mayor of Szczecin Aleksander Buwelski. However, Intrall did not officially confirmed the news.
Intrall operated a manufacturing plant in Lublin, which it took over from Daewoo Motor Poland in 2003. The company, employing 300 workers at that time, went bankrupt in 2007, partly due to difficulties in obtaining approval for the production of its newly-developed Lubo light commercial vehicle lineup.
